What's In The Box

Here's the list for 2010.  I haven't input some of the descriptions but it still gives you an idea of the range of items that we'll plant.  I don't promise to get them all in the ground  because there are over 210 items listed and I haven't even bought the potatoes yet.  I also didn't update the garlic - there are 4 varieties planted in the front garden, waiting for the snow to melt.

You may ask, why so many varieties?  Well, sometimes we'll have a package that has a lot of duds in it (seeds don't germinate) or sometimes one variety will do better than another a specific year (lots of heat or humidity or rain or whatever...this is MI, right?).  So, I like to plant a variety to increase the odds that at least one or two varieties will be good producers.  Also, just because it's planted, doesn't mean we'll harvest a ton of any one item.  Sometimes the weather isn't right for a veggie (last year was cold so things like okra, eggplant, etc., that like heat, took longer to mature).

I'm starting a lot of seeds in advance this year.  If anyone wants to babysit a flat or two, please let me know.  We don't have a greenhouse and plants like peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, etc. need to be kept warm.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for this year's crop!

Please review the list.  If you notice something is missing, I'm happy to plant it.  Also, if you're a member and absolutely know that you won't eat a certain item, please let me know.  If enough of you dislike an item, I'll plant less of it.

Also, you'll notice quite a few flowers.  Some of them need to be planted indoors in order to have blooms by July or August.  Hopefully I'll get this done but, if not, there may be fewer flowers or they'll mature later.
